Every photographer is different, with different styles and ways of working, with our own 'Toolbox' set-up. One thing we all have in common is the challenge of getting the right light for compositions we are trying to achieve, and being in the right place at the right time.
You only have to search your relevant app store to see that there are thousands of choices for tools that will make our lives easier as photographers. Everyone will have personal favourites, so would not want to claim my recommendation is the best for you, but from a personal point of view you cant go far wrong with 'Photographers Ephemeris'.

It is a tool for working out the path of the sun / moon at any given hour on any given day, in any location, including sunrise & sunset times. It has a very simple and easy to use interface which is part of its charm, but dont be fooled, this is a truly useful app that is available for both Android & IOS. There is also a web and desktop based version for at home, so makes planning trips a lot easier, especially for trips at either end of the day.
In a minefield of app choices, there aren't that many that i would wholeheartedly recommend, but this is one.

Decided to take a look at 'PhotoPills' ,and upon the small trial run last night it seems like it has some very useful tools.... In fact I can probably ditch some of the free tools apps and consolidate into one. Must confess to being a little put off by the cost, but in this case it is justified because of what you have at your desposal.... Looking forward to really putting it through its paces!!
